New Year's Eve
It’s hard to find words to round out this year. Stating that 2020 has been a strange year would be an understatement to say the least. But, apart from the pandemic, there have been necessary global awakenings. The Black Lives Matter movement spreading across the world was one of the most profound ones. I have been and still am reading and educating myself on colonialism, slavery and how it upholds racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transfobia, fatfobia and capitalism to this day.
While it has created a kind of distance between myself and others who view things differently, I feel like I’m closer to myself than I ever was before. After having battled with my mental health for so long, and having learnt so much from that, this year has allowed me to think about how I can find community and show up for others. If there is one thing I take away from this year it is how literally every one of our actions can affect another. Be it in a negative, but also in a positive way. I try to focus on the latter, but it takes practice.
I hope this year has been kind for you, as for many it hasn’t been. I hope you have found people you can rely on, share your struggles with. I hope you feel loved and safe. I hope you feel grounded and hopeful for the future. Know that your place in this world matters and that next year will bring new challenges but also insights and that in itself is growth.
Here’s to you! Because you made it through this year and you will many many many more!
Woo! that’s it for marshmellowygoowishness!
Have a nice evening! See you in 2021!
