Hello 2021!
I am not one to make resolutions every beginning of the year. It has never been a thing I do, as I have overall things I want to accomplish and behaviors I’d like to change or work on, but like all things sustainable, the process is slow and can’t be measured. Steady growth instead of instant fixes is what I try to aim for.
In 2020 I’ve learned so much already about implicit biases I had/have. Creating awareness is the only way to fight against it. Slowly I’m seeking ways to make small changes around me. I’m finding more words to express injustices and more concrete ways of taking action.
This year, as I mentioned in my last post I want to find palpable ways in which I can show up for community. I truly believe in changing systems from the ground up and I’ve come across some amazing initiatives that are trying to find new ways towards more equality.
I will continue to look for ways to help where I can, be it through small steps or through big changes. Every bit helps and I want to keep on challenging myself.
Expanding your views outside your own little bubble only enhances growth. Never think your tiny voice doesn’t matter, because it does. I am here to tell you that. it. does.
I hope 2021 will bring you hope, confidence in yourself and in others, leniency and softness and above all fresh bits of air to keep that fire inside all of us burning.
Love,
Marcel Basswood
P.S: I would love to hear from you. So if you do have new year’s resolutions, please share in the comments!
